The Director, Critical Products Management , for the Ascension Health Resource and Management Group (RSMG) develops, facilitates and coordinates contract! ing and decision strategies in collaboration with Health Ministries and RSMG personnel. Under the direction of the Sr. Director Contract Design and Project Management, this individual is responsible for advancing the development of contracts and pricing agreements for all non-labor-related expenses that support patient care delivery that are designated as critical products. These may be surgical, interventional, medical/nursing, trauma/emergency, or other products of critical need and requiring clinical attention. He or she does this while ensuring Ascension Health contracts provide cost-effective supplies and equipment that are consistent, dependable and clinically acceptable by the Decision Teams or user groups. The Director promotes rational and cost-effective contracting strategies through a process that engages our physicians, clinicians, administrators, and senior executives in contract strategy, development, execution, and performance monitoring. This individual lead! s contract design efforts through collaboration with other Con! tract Design associates and may over time coordinate a small team to ensure coverage of supply needs in numerous areas (catheterization labs, obstetrics, surgery, anesthesia, etc). He or she ensures a smooth handoff and effective coordination with other Resource and Supply Management Group areas according to the matrix model (Contract Design, Sourcing, Implementation, and Finance, with supportive analytics). This position will be located in St. Louis, MO.
Provides leadership through innovation and contract design, striving to have the most respected, credible and effective contracting processes in the industry.
Works with Clinical Sponsors and Clinical Excellence, as appropriate, to align contract opportunities with Ascension Health initiatives and groups and to identify appropriate and experienced clinicians as advisors and Decision Team members.
Manages the advisory process and Decision Teams to ensure direction to Sourcing team includes rational, cost-ef! fective contracting strategies that keep clinically excellent, safe patient care and stewardship as the main focus. Engages Clinical Excellence, Risk Management, and Decision Team support as needed to determine clinically acceptable product options.
Works collaboratively with Finance, Sourcing and Implementation Resource and Supply Management Group peers to ensure alignment and achievement of mutual goals.
Provides direction and counsel to the system office and Health Ministry associates on savings targets and ensures the development of cost-savings initiatives and associated work plan timelines and milestones.
Works with Sourcing team to develop a contract plan, provide product/equipment/ service clinical or operational requirements for RFx documents, review changes in utilization/practice patterns and consider new technologies.
Applies project management techniques throughout the contracting process, directing structured evaluation process when required wi! th product-specific evaluation tools and compiling/interpreting results! for leaders, Sourcing team, and Implementation team.
Assists with the development of the implementation and/or conversion strategy and communication of new contracts.
Supports the maintenance of contracts by working collaboratively with the Implementation Team, Health Ministries, and other System Office departments to resolve quality issues and provide peer support and advice to the Sourcing team.
Facilitates communication of clinically or operationally relevant information such as product recalls/alerts, clinical benefits and educational opportunities, contract announcements and other communication strategies.

This position requires 5-8 years of experie! nce, ideally a mix of clinical management, consulting, and/or supply chain leadership, preferably focused in clinical areas. An individual with a clinical background is strongly preferred.
Bachelor's degree is required; MS, MBA, or other relevant advanced degree preferred.
Demonstrated leadership skills
Ability to foster teamwork and create enthusiasm within a team
Strong knowledge of surgical supplies as well as working knowledge of general medical supplies, non-clinical products, distribution strategies and inventory management processes.
Demonstrated quality improvement, analytical, and implementation skills with regard to clinical processes
Ability to effectively communicate with physicians, clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals, and Health Ministry leaders.
Understanding of utilization and productivity in a variety of clinical settings.
Possess high degree of ethical standards.
