Essential Functions

POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs comprehensive financial counseling services for patients. Serves as the liaison for OB/GYN, patients, and affiliated Hospital Systems to resolve patient account issues or inquiries. Works with patients and/or their guarantor to inform them regarding financial assistance options. Responsible for the estimates for Self Pay and Non-Contracted patients to ensure reimbursement is timely and sufficient. Routinely interacts with patients, physicians, department administrators and personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Oversees estimates and payment agreements for service/surgical Self Pay Patients.

2. Works with WUPN staff and Non Contracted Plans Managed Care Payers to obtain benefits and payment agreements for patients.

3. Works with State Agencies to obtain payment agreements and necessary credentialing for Out of State Medicaid Payers. Tracks and documents individual state processes and requirements.

4. Advises billing manager on collection issues that arise.

5. Assists front desk staff with report preparation for collection of patient balances.

6. Performs all aspect of the pre-arrival process including calling patients for information, assists with Pre-certification, and implements changes to the billing system as needed.

7. Handles patient billing questions.

8. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent of High School diploma with 3 to 5 years of previous billing or insurance experience required. 2 years of college or business school preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Equivalent of high school diploma with 4-5 years experience in a medical office environment, or related field; knowledge of medical terminology; extensive telephone experience with demonstrated exceptional phone etiquette; is experienced in a managed care setting; has experience using the IDX System; is familiar with WUSM services and programs. This position requires extensive knowledge with data entry/computer experience with an automated scheduling system.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $16.55 to $20.69 per hour.
