We are looking for a courageous, influential, and passionate sustainability and supply chain strategist to serve as associate strategy manager, Sustainability within the Global Supply Chain Strategy and Deployment Organization. In this role you will help us build a planet positive supply chain of the future and be empowered to be curious and tenacious in pursuit of our enterprise enduring aspirations by influencing and compelling change through innovation, sustainable development, and strategic planning. Strong sustainability and supply chain acumen, an ability to organize across cross-functional teams and stakeholder groups, influential communication, and problem-solving skills are critical to global supply chain sustainability strategy development.

This job contributes to Starbucks success by building strategic plans, developing problem solving approaches, facilitating cross functional teams, and evaluating complex, multi-year, multifaceted programs. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

As an associate strategy manager, Sustainability, you will…

  • Evaluate, test, and deploy new supply chain sustainability initiatives including sustainable transportation, renewable and efficient energy use, waste and circularity, and/or supplier and sourcing sustainability.
  • Maintain deep subject matter expertise in global supply chain sustainability, actively seeking insights, emerging trends, and innovations.
  • Proactively interpret, share, and apply insights to enhance current strategies, programs, and projects, identifying opportunities to drive impact and create value.
  • Make recommendations beyond individual area of portfolio, influencing team and enterprise strategies.
  • Partner with internal cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement sustainability initiatives that includes deliverables, strategic alignment, enterprise-wide impacts, milestones, risks, assumptions, constraints, and overall investment.
  • Update initiative plans, priorities, and sequencing as needed.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to meet changing mission parameters and requirements.
  • Monitor execution to ensure that key milestones, as well as financial and sustainability parameters are met and delivered effectively to achieve overall goals and objectives.
  • Communicate initiative status to participants and stakeholders accurately and on time. Escalate to ensure issues are resolved, as needed.

  • Sustainability knowledge, expertise, and passion, including expertise in sustainable transportation, renewable and efficient energy use, waste and circularity, and/or supplier and sourcing sustainability.
  • Experience leading social/environmental impact programs and projects.
  • Supply Chain Operations knowledge, expertise, and passion.
  • Self-starting and organized leadership qualities.
  • Strategic thought leadership and strong financial acumen.
  • Leadership in guiding cross-functional teams to think through complex and ambiguous issues, ability to identify creative information sources and approaches, and develop new insights.
  • Ability to create structured but dynamic presentations illustrating key business issues, new insights, and recommendations.
  • Ability to communicate team recommendations to senior leaders and confidently field questions and concerns.
  • Experience managing overall initiative workplans, defining approach, timing, and key deliverables, and ensuring that cross-functional team meets all deliverables and timelines.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • 5+ years of experience in sustainability
  • 2+ years of experience in supply chain
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability, innovation, supply chain
  • Advanced knowledge of program and project management principles
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and ability to translate complex sustainability topics to a broad range of audiences
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities
  • Ability to establish cross-functional, collaborative relationships with business and technology partners
  • Ability and excitement to lead complex program and project efforts to completion while engaging a variety of teams at different levels (including executives)
  • Ability to negotiate and influence
