Anesthetist (CRNA) assists with administering anesthetics and/or monitors the anesthetized
patient during surgical, obstetric! and radiological procedures.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include any and/or all of the following:
Evaluates the patient pre-operatively by interviewing and examining the patient;
assesses data; selects appropriate anesthetic.
Administers anesthetics in accordance with clinical privileges delineated and any
conditions or restrictions imposed thereof.
Monitors, interprets, and evaluates information derived from monitors intraopertatively
on the patient of any age group and physical status; protects patients life functions and
vital organs.
Performs medical non-surgical procedures, i.e. IV insertion, intubation, hemodynamic and
electrolyte balance, airway management in routine and acute medical situations.
Monitors the patients post-operatively care and performs evaluation of the patient.
Prepares drugs; maintains anesthesia equipment to keep in safe operating c! ondition.
Maintains accounting of controlled substanc! es; performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of anesthesia equipment
Knowledge of medical technology
Counseling/advising skills
Interpersonal/human relations skills
Ability to learn and apply institutional policies and procedures
Ability to push patients in carts and/or wheelchairs
Ability to adapt to work environment changes
Ability to maintain records
Ability to maintain confidentiality
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience equivalent to:
Graduation from an approved RN program; supplemented with two (2) years related
experience. Missouri RN License and certification as an Certified Registered Nurse
Anesthetist (CRNA).
