Description: St. Louis County is at present recruited Nurse Practitioner - Family Practice right now, this career will be placed in Missouri. Nurse Practitioners are responsible for providing primary health care in areas such as pediatrics, OB/GYN and adult medicine. These positions work at the St. Loui! s County Health Department Health Centers which are located in Pine Lawn, Berkeley and Sunset Hills. The work hours will be primarily day hours Monday - Friday with holidays and weekends off. There are no call responsibilities. Malpractice insurance is provided by the Health Department. The typical starting salary will be within the first 20% of the salary range.

Examples of Duties:
Obtains complete medical histories including past medical conditions, family and psychosocial history as well as current problems.

Performs physical examinations using medical instruments including stethoscope, otoscope, sphygmomanometer and ophthalmoscope to ascertain health status of patients treated at county health centers.

Orders laboratory tests as indicated.

Assesses and diagnoses symptoms, routine laboratory tests and other physical examination findings.

Treats minor illnesses.

Prescribes standing medications under the dire! ction of a physician.

Consults with physicians and ot! her health care providers to formulate patient management plans or referrals, as indicated.

Refers patients to outside specialists for consultation and works with other County health care providers including nutritionists, social workers and psychologists for supplemental care.

Provides health education and counseling to encourage good physical and psychosocial habits and promote disease prevention.

Performs gynecological examinations treats sexually transmitted diseases (STD) under the direction of a physician, and provides contraceptive information, instruction and management.

Promotes improved health care delivery and social programs.

Responds to telephone inquiries to provide medical care advice.

May be assigned to special areas in addition to general nurse practitioner duties.

Maintains patient electronic medical records including the recording of findings, diagnosis, treatment and patient concerns.
Provides instructions for nursing staff.

Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited program in Nursing leading to licensing as a Registered Nurse, supplemented by completion of an accredited Family Practice Nurse Practitioner program, prefer one to three years of experience working as a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner in a primary care setting.

Additional Information:
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State of Missouri and recognized by the State Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN-C). Certified as an Family Practice Nurse Practitioner or Women's Health Nurse Practitioner.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, r! esults of employment references investigated and any other appropriate ! information available.

The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade.

A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment.

The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing authority who will make the final decision.

All applicants conditionally offered a permanent part time, full time; term or on-call position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be borne by the County.
