Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) will provide anesthesia care to patients for surgery, obstetrics, radiology procedures, GI Lab procedures and Cath Lab procedures. This includes general, re! gional, local and sedation anesthesia. They will work under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) will provide anesthesia care to patients for surgery, obstetrics, radiology procedures, GI Lab procedures and Cath Lab procedures. This includes general, regional, local and sedation anesthesia. They will work under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

Scope of Practice includes, but is not limited to the following:

Performing and documenting a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient, including requesting consultations and diagnostic studies; selecting, obtaining, ordering and administering pre-anesthetic medications and fluids; and obtaining informed consent for anesthesia.

Developing and implementing an anesthetic plan.

Initiating the anesthe! tic technique which may include: general, regional, local,! and sedation.

Selecting, applying, and inserting appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for continuous evaluation of the patient’s physical status, and the timely documentation of such.

Selecting, obtaining, and administering the anesthetics, adjuvant and accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic.

Managing a patient’s airway and pulmonary status using current practice modalities.

Facilitating emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering and administering medications, fluids and ventilator support.

Discharging the patient from a post-anesthesia care area and providing post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care.

Implementing acute pain management modalities.

Responding to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids and drugs, insertion of arterial lines and intravenous lines, and using basic or! advanced cardiac life support techniques.

Complying with Surgical Care Improvement Project details and satisfying Medicare requirements for optimal care.

Placing and managing epidurals for post-operative pain management and for labor and delivery analgesia.

Providing on-call coverage according to a schedule maintained by the Chief CRNA(s).

Qualifications/Requirements

Graduation from an approved program of anesthesia accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or a predecessor or successor agency

Certification by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists or re-certification by the Council on Recertification (or by a predecessor or successor agency to either council)

Current unencumbered license to practice in Missouri as a Registered Nurse and Certificate of Recognition to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist as required by the Missouri State Board! of Nursing. (Note: Recognition by the State Board of Nursing as a Grad! uate Registered Nurse Anesthetist is acceptable in accordance with the Rules of the Missouri Board of Nursing).

Certified in Basic Life support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support

Must be able to read, write and speak English.
