Description: St. Mary's Medical Center is in need of RN - Registered Nurse 2 - Birthing Center PRN right now, this occupation will be placed in Missouri. The Clinician 2 has authority, responsibility, and accountability as follows: Plan of Care/Clinical Pathways: Develops an individu! alized plan of care for assigned patients. Coordinates care for individual patients on a day to day basis. Education: Accountable for teaching patients new information. Accountable for maintaining professional competencies. Communication: Is accountable for effective communication with patients/family, care team members and physicians regarding the patient's progress on the plan of care and response to treatment. Staff Development: Participates in the orientation of new employees. Oversees care assigned to paraprofessionals on the patient care team. Works in partnership with members of the team. Gives input into peer evaluations. Quality: Implements plan of care/Clinical Pathways assuring progression toward quality outcomes. Safety: Provides and supports a safe patient care environment. Collaboration: Consults with physician and team members regarding changes in patient's condition and revises the plan of care utilizing input of tea! m members. Supports roles of all coworkers. Practice: O! perates within the scope of their practice as outlined by the Missouri State Board of Nursing.

DEPARTMENT/UNIT SPECIFIC PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrates competence in obstetrical assessment of identifying normal level of function versus alterations from normal parameters. Utilizes standards of obstetrical nursing practice and the nursing process in daily practice. Prioritizes within an obstetrical environment involving high bed turnover. Maintains current knowledge of fetal/maternal monitoring systems, applies appropriate intervention, and reports any discrepancies to proper person. Monitors PAR/postpartum patients while also providing an atmosphere conducive to infant attachment. Assists patients on other units as requested/needed with respect to antepartum and postpartum care. Demonstrates knowledge of pathophysiology and physiology related to obstetrics. Intervenes appropriately to interpret fetal and cardiac monitor rhythms. Ensures prompt respons! e and correctly intervenes in maternal/fetal emergencies within the department and the hospital. Performs technical tasks necessary to assist the physician, i.e., scrubbing and circling for vaginal deliveries, C-sections and D&Cs, applying internal fetal scalp electrode. Performs medical screening examinations in consultation with, as appropriate, the attending or on-call physician and, if necessary, the Emergency Services physician per policy.
